Each year, I’m thrilled when Pantone announces their selection for Color of the Year. It’s fascinating to see how they project a color will permeate different industries and conventions to influence our lives throughout the coming year. Anyone recall Tangerine Tango from last year?
For 2013, Pantone has chosen Emerald (Pantone 17-5641) as the tone of choice. While the color has always been one of my favorites, I particularly like the description the included with the announcement. This color, according to the company’s executive director, Leatrice Eisman, represents what we need most right now: growth. On the one hand, the jewel tone begets connotations of luxury and prosperity, something many businesses have been anxiously anticipating for some time now. On the other, there’s a more humble concept of renewal and healing, something many people are yearning for in the wake of tragedies and struggles that marked the end of 2012.
No matter how you interpret the color or apply it to your life, I think we can all appreciate its beauty. And maybe that lesson is the most important here. Sometimes, it’s best not to over think things and just enjoy them. Here’s hoping there’s a lot more of that in 2013.
Cheers,
Robyn
