Have you ever wondered what a location looked like 50, 60, 70 or more than 100 years ago, back when everything was so… different? I find there ends up being more of everything like buildings, people, signs and vehicles as time goes on, but sometimes that’s not the case.
A New Way to View History
Well, I stumbled upon a website where you can use interactive sliders to compare archival images of New York with photos from the same spot as it appears today. You can view a before (1894) and after (2013) of Union Square, or a before (1917) and after (2013) of Wall Street and there are many more. It is pretty amazing getting to see what has changed or not changed, see where there’s more and where there’s less, and gasp at the styles of the day.
